Chapter 1, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

1

Ichigo, though it was not yet called Ichigo, was supposed to be easy. Something that Sam and Sadie could accomplish during the summer between their junior and senior years.

Sam had been thinking about proposing a game-making partnership to Sadie since December, but he decided to wait until March to bring up the idea. He intuited that she was busy with schoolwork and needed time to focus on herself after a difficult period. The cause of her depression was still a mystery to Sam, but he respected her privacy and didn't push her to talk about it.

Sam's desire to work with Sadie stemmed from their strong friendship, which allowed for a great deal of trust and understanding. He valued their unique bond and felt that it would be the foundation of a successful creative partnership. Furthermore, he wanted to create something special with Sadie, something that would reflect their friendship and be memorable.

After considering the timing, Sam decided to ask Sadie to join him on a special occasion. He wanted the proposal to be memorable and chose the Glass Flowers exhibit at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. He thought it would be the perfect setting for their creative union, much like a proposal of marriage.

As they walked to the exhibit, Sam told Sadie about his plans to attend the Glass Flowers and asked her to join him. The exhibit showcased around four thousand glass models of plants, painstakingly crafted by a German father-and-son team in the 19th century. Sam was drawn to the beauty and accuracy of the models, which looked like real flowers.

When they arrived at the exhibit, they found it closed due to museum inventory day. Disappointed but not deterred, Sam sat down on a bench and asked Sadie what she was doing that summer. Sadie mentioned that she was still unsure about her future direction in game design and was considering other options. Sam sensed an opportunity and proposed an idea: he asked her to take three months off to make a game with him.

Sadie was initially hesitant but eventually agreed to join Sam on his project. They would work together, using Marx's apartment as their creative space. Sam felt that their game had the potential to be something special, and he wanted Sadie to be a part of it.

Years later, Sadie would remember the time they spent together, the laughter, and the game-making process. She would also recall the moment Sam asked her to make a game with him, and the special setting they chose for their collaboration – the Glass Flowers exhibit.

As Sadie looked back on their time together, she realized that Sam's persistence and creativity had played a significant role in shaping their lives. He had encouraged her to take risks, to try new things, and to never give up on her passions.

The Glass Flowers, once a disappointment, had become a memory, a reminder of the beautiful, fragile, and ever-changing nature of their friendship.

And so, their story began – a story of games, passion, and the pursuit of their dreams.
