CHAPTER 15 "UNSOLICITED ADVICE"
As her pregnancy progresses, Elizabeth receives unsolicited advice from strangers. Dr. Mason, the rowing team captain and obstetrician, finally sees her.
Dr. Mason treats Elizabeth's pregnancy like any other patient and acknowledges how difficult it must be for her. Elizabeth is touched by his empathy and assertion that not every woman wants to be a mother.
Dr. Mason is surprised and impressed that Elizabeth is still "erging." He concludes that her strength and health during pregnancy have been good and invites Elizabeth to row with the team again in a year after she has had the baby and recovered. He assures her that she was a good rower and will handle childbirth and recover well.
