CHAPTER 13 "IDIOTS"

After Calvin's death and the negative article, Hastings' benefactors begin to question the Institute's projects and funding. Hastings has few brilliant scientists, but Zott is one of them. Management is reluctant to give her power or opportunity because she's a woman. They even told the abiogenesis investor that "Mr. Zott" was behind the research. After that, they invested in other projects.

Miss Frask announces Elizabeth's pregnancy to management. This complicates matters because the investor may discover that "Mr. Zott" is a woman. Elizabeth leads the group research, but Donatti fires her.

As she tries to argue that he has no legal grounds to fire her for being pregnant, Elizabeth discovers that Calvin had interfered and was the only reason she was allowed to continue her abiogenesis research.
